any my wine bottle isn't getting any fuller.

ok that is the worst bios update ever. after resetting the nvram without the battery & power connected, it doesn't even beep during POST. A trainwreck.

“In computer science, it’s easier to keep everything. It just costs space on a disk. Forgetting is hard. And thus, being lazy, we decide to build a world that makes it easy to undo all our mistakes, to prove all our mistakes, to keep all our records, and so the road to the police state is paved with good intentions.”
As software developers, we often find that designing humane software is harder then ignoring human needs. But it’s what we need.

After lurking around for almost two weeks without a single toot I think it would be time to transfer to a more active state: hello everybody.

Upgrading BIOS is a PITA. After switching back to UEFI boot, and display to PCI card, now hangs on boot. Also, the wine bottle is now empty. 🍷

The orchid mantis is a big weird lanky bug, which is relatable, but she also rocks high-femme fashion while being a terrifying predator with swords for arms, which is aspirational.

Cascading Style Sheets? no thanks I prefer Gangnam Style Sheets

it turns out its a pretty accurate rendition of my general programming/devoops style anyway.

reposting that with the story that goes with it, my media box kept mysteriously rebooting, no amount of debugging or tracing seemed to pick up the spurious restarts. It turns out my 2yo "expert" loved the flashing lights as it started up, and found out how to hard reset it. 3 months of wondering wtf was happening until I filmed this.

spend most of this week hunting down a weird bug that causes my pc to lock up. report the bug, and find that it was fixed last night by somebody else! All in all this is a good thing, and I learned some more debugging stuff which is what its all about.

Setting up Arch is a stark reminder that linux consists of dozens of different systems created by hundreds of programmers. All of those systems need a lot of configuration-file glue in order to work together.

So Elon Musk is refusing to pay an artist for art he used in Tesla marketing materials, claiming he 'promoted' his work by using it.

I am the furthermost thing from an advocate of copyright, but what I find amazing in these cases is that professed capitalists like Elon, who claim that is the best, most fair model to run a society, (because it rewards people who work hard and create value), then refuse to compensate people for their hard work and the value that they clearly provided.

Looking forwards to next week and taking a few personal care days to recover from all the crap of the last few months. Hopefully the weather improves from rainy days and I can get some time on the kayak in the lake.

Yeah, that's still a terrifying violation of our privacy.

This is evil.

Today, I wrote some ruby code, learned a thing or two, and threw all the code away. Sometimes, the joy of programming leaves nothing to show for it.
