it looks like the decentralized push web is clawing its way out of the grave. I have no words to explain how happy that makes me.

I just wish Aaron Swartz was alive to see it.

Reclaiming RSS

“Before Twitter, before algorithmic timelines filtered our reality for us, before surveillance capitalism, there was RSS: Really Simple Syndication … As we move away from the centralised web to the peer web, it’s time to rediscover, re-embrace, and reclaim RSS.”

@kusuriya @kurtm It's set. But unless people look for it, they don't see it. I've generally picked up a couple more of my old followers each time I boost or toot about it on the old account.

@resist_berlin This is true.

afaik the Google protests are primarily about gentrification, which raises the question of why there is one company which is so massively wealthy that it can jack up rents and boot the locals out, which leads to how Google managed to capture so much revenue from advertisers (and possibly other sources like the military), which leads to questions like why did so many lazy web developers hardcode Google links into their apps so that lots of tracking can happen.

It begins with education. Google had a lot of developer mindshare for a long time, and that had consequences. It has been losing that, but needs to lose more. One possibility is that it might be nice to have stats about how ineffective content monetization is and how few creators make any money out of Google and what the trends are with that (downwards).
