@mwlucas I'm tempted to say once every six hours for the first week, once daily for the first month after that, and then once every Tuesday and Friday thereafter.

But if I did that on octodon.social I suspect @CobaltVelvet would insist that I find a different instance or start my own.

@mwlucas I don't know whether you're aware, but reading your thoughts about how a book is performing after its release is genuinely interesting! You should certainly toss up a link when you're musing about them, help remind us where to go.

(For that matter, I doubt anyone would mind a quick link tossed at the bottom or under a CW when you're talking about a topic you've already covered in a book. "For more information" is not just advertising. It's often genuinely helpful!)

@mwlucas I usually read everything in my timeline on the bird site and get very pissed off with repetition. I get why people repeat: because others don't read their full timelines but that in turn is at least partly because of repetition. Let's break that cycle on Mastodon.

@mwlucas since your audience is world-wide, and not everyone checks every day, I think "once per (reasonable) timezone" spread over a couple days would be the best.

self-promotion is socially acceptable here, especially if that isn't all you use it for.

@mwlucas Really, even your repetitions on birdsite are so much less annoying than much other promotional activity. Ultimately, you still have a sense of shame, so you keep it pretty toned down.

Really, if you were worried about repetition, use a CW with "SSH 2nd edition shilling" or the like.

Keep up with your normal non-shilling interactions here on Mastodon, and folks will mostly not care, I think.

@mwlucas Regrettably, I need to boost my Quality Content™ at least once, maybe twice a day here. People aren’t going back on their timelines to find it.

@mwlucas I miss more here than there, because there I use an Android app as the browser client is awful. Here, I use the browser and I'm still learning how to use the 4-column UI. I miss TL feeds now and again.
