If I was to video record myself on my webcam, how would I add opening and closing text?

(Pondering doing a live reading of the first chapter of in the style of a political demagogue.)

The search engines are full of suggestions for complicated cases. Is this one of those "buy the whole damn product for one thing" cases?

Thinking about it, though: I could use hand-written signs going in and out. That amuse me.

@mwlucas Record on webcam, make png with text. Use ffmepg to turn png into a video segment. Use ffmpeg to splice together all segments

@_tj @mwlucas Then write an ffmpeg Mastery book for the rest of us.

@_tj @mwlucas Thanks, that looks useful - just read a few pages and bookmarked for next time I want to do anything with video.

@mwlucas
You could use Star Wars-like effect of text scrolling into view but with a dot matrix printer. And of course the text would be edited with ed(1).

@mwlucas Try kdenlive, or blender (though blender is a beast that requires a good manual to use as a video editor properly...)? Alternatively, that hand-written sign thing sounds cool as well!

@mwlucas What Platform are you using? Open Broadcaster Studio is nice.

@bitgeist I have no platform. I've never recorded a video in my life. I'm starting from Windows and FreeBSD workstations.

@mwlucas It looks like it is in FreeBSD ports, but I’ve only ever run it under OSX and Windows. It is happy to record to a file, but check the default recording format first.
