my was installing NetBSD on a friend's dreamcast ๐Ÿ˜‚ i had no idea what it was or how it worked and we quickly stopped after it booted...

coming from the linux world (first contact was mandrake in school) i set up my first FreeBSD installation on an old pc i had at home in 2005 i think. used it as a fileserver forever until i finally moved to OpenBSD with 5.3 in the summer of 2013 and added DNS and DHCP ๐Ÿ˜€

@phessler do you have any idea why the emoji list takes so incredibly long to load? i don't remember seeing that on other mastodon hosts.

Whoever thought auto playing videos in a browser was such a great idea should never be involved in browser development.

holy crap, there's a big log that's been floating in Crater Lake since *1896* and it's history is *amazing*: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Old_Man_

sinusitis and bronchitis, yay ๐Ÿคง
at least i have @mwlucas to keep me entertained! bsd.network/media/fEMhQRkyC6wA

Good news everybody! Thanks to the work of @qbit, the nodejs based Streaming service for mastodon now builds and runs on

So, now this instance has streaming for you. Notifications ought to be much faster.

just got these beauties. dpb macppc environment for incoming. also they have dwarf names from lotr and have to keep them (says the seller) - no problem with that! bsd.network/media/zPNup-SIaGkc

I made a quick shell script to download the Spamhaus DROP list and create a block list for pf

gist.github.com/cypnk/a9831a09

The Spamhaus lists are really helpful if you're running a mail server

I'm using this on #OpenBSD. You can probably run this weekly via cron

Remember to reload pf after generating this list

Who on here has any experience with the Tilera TILE platform? I have two TILEncore-Gx36 cards that I'm looking to "play" with and would appreciate having someone to (occasionally & thoughtfully) ping about them.

Boosts appreciated!

BLOCK ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป ALL ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป THE ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป ADS

Seriously. Install uBlock Origin and never disable it for anyone until the ad industry shapes up.

@mwlucas so when's that vmm book going to be released? ๐Ÿ˜Ž

okay so it's time? hey there. user since 5.0 and mainly and before that. my work is mainly oracle enterprise software (*slow clap*) and databases on windows, linux, system i and aix hosts. a security nightmare so i only do that in my free time and at home. also began c programming a few weeks ago and love it!

should i buy 3x G5 Macs for package build? the price is right and they're in berlin ๐Ÿค”

@rick42 openssl got a prize for "for dramatic improvements to the code quality of OpenSSL".

there was a dev in the audience. I don't know how many people heard him laugh.

'Include hostname in shell prompts by default' has been the best fucking thing of late. Can't wait until it hits release for all of my edge devices! I'm certain it's saved me HOURS of time by not `uname -a`ing all the goddamned time! I'm still befuddled by the args against it!

Hey BSD folk. Looks like our good friend Peter Hansteen (@pitrh) is in the market. Now's a great time to hire a great guy, pf expert, mail guru and real Unix systems admin. twitter.com/akpoff/status/9512
