why isn't there a Canadian instance called moosetodon
Though, I still prefer the touch pad on my T530 over this one.
Note to self: OpenBSD is also pretty stellar on ThinkPad T540p.
So on October 17 pot will be legal in Canada but purchasing it may prevent me from entering into the US in the future… hmm.
How badly do I want my kids to be able to go to Disneyland when they're a little older? Maybe Disney can build a Canadian park. HAH.🤔
🙀<- The face I made when I realized out of all the Primus albums, I had forgotten to put Sailing the Seas of Cheese on my phone. #primussucks #tommythecat
Here I was grumbling about the state and "un-openness" of WordTsar (WordStar clone) when it struck me… really… all I want is probably Emacs or Vim.
I'm more familiar with Vim but this might be a good opportunity to become more familiar with Emacs. I think Emacs might even have a WordStar mode available which would be cool. I can pretend to be George R. R. Martin while writing cover letters…
Potty training toddlers. Such a pain and often frustrating but trying to keep the end goal in site. So much savings not having to buy diapers for twin toddlers.
4 boxes, 2 for each kid. 1 for home, one for daycare. $160 CAD. 😭
To try and get over the beginner programmer hump I'm trying to make my own version of what seemed to be a very simple program/script.
It's a wireless connection manager for OpenBSD written in Perl. My attempt is with Python.
I'm hitting a few roadblocks but I'm trying to work through them on my own before asking for help.
I think my current problem is more of a general programming concept than a Python-specific problem. Hoping I can overcome my lack of education on this.
For the last few years I've been working in a Windows environment so I've focused on PowerShell (and a little C# in my spare time).
Now that things are changing, I can spend some time focusing on something more broad. Not sure what yet. Maybe Python and something a little more hefty… like C or C++ perhaps?
I thought I had a TTF problem with OpenBSD and GTK2 applications. Turns out it’s just Courier New that doesn’t want to work. It gets replaced with a DejaVu mono don’t. I wonder if there is a setting causing this font to override Courier New somewhere.
OpenBSD still loses connectivity with the corporate Guest Wireless connection a lot, but I can live with it for the month I have left here. A quick script makes it easy enough to restore the connection when it stops working.
Managed to grab myself a ThinkPad T530 and installed OpenBSD 6.3 on it. Really a very nice experience aside from getting used to another laptop keyboard. I think I'm going to enjoy this.
I've had this OpenBSD VPS on Vultr for months now and only just realized outbound FTP isn't working. Time to open up my PF Bible from @pitrh and figure out what I'm doing wrong. 😁
Crazy to think of how I got here:
- Started as a field assistant.
- Started learning the math behind the surveying.
- Got called into the office to try drafting because the other drafters always called me to ask me how to use PKZip.
- Learned AutoCAD on the fly.
- Got hired as “Shadow IT” because Corporate IT wasn’t good enough.
- Hired by Corporate because my group was embarrassing them.
- Given opportunities to expand into SCCM and OSD because I took initiative to learn & fix past mistakes.
Possible new gig in the same industry as I am currently: geomatics. Amusingly opposite of my current employer. Have been outsourcing their IT and are looking to bring it in house with qualified people who know the needs of the business and understand the industry.
Even in 2018, one of the biggest stresses for me is trying to find a USB wireless adapter that will work for me on… non-Windows operating systems.
This is why I can't use DuckDuckGo… seriously… not one link to neocities.org in the top 5 or even on the entire first page of search results…
Thank you everyone who’s joined my BBS so far! Hopefully I can keep the momentum up and make everything more entertaining for everyone!
