Here I was grumbling about the state and "un-openness" of WordTsar (WordStar clone) when it struck me… really… all I want is probably Emacs or Vim.
I'm more familiar with Vim but this might be a good opportunity to become more familiar with Emacs. I think Emacs might even have a WordStar mode available which would be cool. I can pretend to be George R. R. Martin while writing cover letters…
@fluke For me, it was more nostalgia while at the same time searching for something simple.
Emacs is not exactly "simple" but at least it allows me to configure a few things how I like and stays out of the way otherwise.
@towen I never understood the fetishizing of Wordstar on an ancient computer. Emacs has a perfectly competent wordstar-mode.
